Summary

The New Files present a two-part documentary examining the parallels between Greece's debt crisis and the most highly debated crisis within Greece, that of Argentina's economy in 2001. The New Files' Eleni Varvitsioti travels to Argentina and meets with all the protagonists of 2001 meltdown, investigates the looting, the hunger and the challenges Argentinians were faced with in 2001 as well as the current state of Argentina's economy. In a series of exclusive interviews with - among others - former President of the country Fernando De la Rua, whose famous leaving the Casa Rosada with an Air Force helicopter became the iconic image of the Argentinian crisis, Mario Blejer, former Central banker of Argentina who was tasked with saving the Argentinian economy twice as well as former Minister of Economy of Argentina Domingo Cavallo who is credited with both the convertibility plan that pegged the peso to the dollar and brought Argentina's massive inflation numbers down but was also Minister of Economy when the IMF decided to withdraw its support from Argentina. The New Files two-part investigation also includes an exclusive interview with current Minister of Economy of Argentina, Hernan Lorenzino that was cut short and subsequently became Argentina's social media sensation provoking the creation of twitter hashtag #Mequieroir.
