Aspis Pronoia: The fall of the giant
Tasos Telloglou investigates the rise and fall of one-time insurance colossus Aspis Pronoia, which counts today more than 800,000 anxious insured Greeks, who are waiting to see what will become of their money. Moreover, the “New Files” seek out the life story of the young man from Tampouria who found himself at the company’s steering wheel. The show’s camera enters the now empty offices of Aspis Pronoia, where we interview the people who know well the past and present of the Greek branch of the General Insurance Company that became famous in the 1960s, when it insured Neil Armstrong against threats from aliens. Using as a guide the testimonies of former employees, experts in the demanding field of insurances and politicians who made important decisions, Tasos Telloglou records the frenetic eight years which led to the collapse of one of the most important companies in the field of insurances in Greece, and attempts to provide answers to the thousands who worry about the future of insurances paid from their savings; a working population that worries about whether they will be able to receive their retirement money or not. Finally, Tasos Telloglou reveals the unknown story of the Public Insurance Funds that relied on Aspis Pronoia’s reserve fund. Who knew what, when they signaled the alarm and what is going to happen from now on.
