The “secret” war
Sofia Papaioanou travels to the Georgian cities of Tbilisi and Gori in order to investigate the chronicle of the “secret” diplomatic war behind the conflict of Caucasus. In her report she traces the war of the pipelines, NATO’s movements as well as the geopolitical game of Caucasus that led Russia and America to the brink of a new cold war. Moreover, the camera of the NEW FILES visits a “different” exhibition in Moscow, in which Russians expose mementos of the current conflict proving – as indicated by the museum curator - the engagement of Americans during the 5-day war in S. Ossetia. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Bryza explains to Sofia Papaioanou in an exclusive about “the colossal mistake, unmatched by anything maybe Russia has done in the last few decades,” while former President of Georgia and former Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Soviet Union Edvard Shevardnadze expresses his query for this “pointless” war.
